10 September 2006 SEX DOCTOR: PLUMBER CAN'T STOP STEALING LADIES' SHOES Dr Catherine Hood
I'M a 35-year-old plumber and I regularly carry out work in people's homes. The problem is that for as long as I can remember I've had an obsession with ladies' shoes.
I've sometimes bought them but I get a far greater kick out of stealing them from the houses I'm working in. I now have over 250 pairs hidden in my workshop at the bottom of my garden.
I know it's wrong to steal - I've nearly been caught so many times - but I just can't help myself. Please could you help me as my wife has found two pairs in my work van and is becoming increasingly suspicious.
YOU have got what is known as a fetish. A person's behaviour is called a fetish when they gain sexual pleasure from an inanimate object such as a shoe. Fetishes are thought to originate during adolescence when you may have learnt to associate ladies shoes with pleasurable or sexual feelings.
Shoes are a common fetish object, particularly high-heeled or platform ones, such as those worn in erotic films. Sometimes it's the material that the shoes are made from that's particularly attractive, like leather or PVC, and it can extend to tights and stockings.
Having a fetish isn't a problem if it doesn't start to control your life. My concern with you is that your fetish is controlling your behaviour so much that you're driven to break the law and steal from houses where you work. You have nearly been found out before and if the stealing is discovered you could end up in serious trouble and lose your job. How would you explain that to your wife?
Not only is your job being threatened by your behaviour but your marriage is too. If your wife finds shoes in your van the logical conclusion is that you're having an affair. At the very least you will have a lot of explaining to do.
