Moira Quinn, a top executive with Charlotte Center City Partners and a 1977 graduate of Queens University of Charlotte, has been named president of the school's Alumni Association board of directors.Quinn will lead the group during a year when Queens celebrates its 150th anniversary with a number of special events.
School officials say those events will be designed to attract alumni to participate in anniversary events and visit campus. They say Quinn will play a lead role in that effort.
"Moira is a wonderful example of a liberal arts graduate who has gone on to great professional success," said Jennifer Garner, associate vice president of university advancement at Queens. "She is working with Charlotte Center City Partners to promote Queens uptown and help spread the word about our celebration."
Events will include a family barbecue and Pirate Fantasy Casino on Oct. 20; a fun run, another family barbecue and tours of the Asheville area, Yadkin Valley wine-producing region and Charlotte area on Saturday; and a nondenominational worship service and President's Luncheon on Sunday.
The UNC Charlotte graduate school is hosting four students selected by the prestigious Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship for international students to study in the United States.Awardees are of Moldova and of Armenia and returning students of Kyrgyzstan and of Uzbekistan.
Charlotte indie-rock band The Sammies will play for students Friday on the Plaza Patio as part of the UNCC Campus Activities Board's Music Live event.

Ridership on UNC Charlotte's on-campus shuttle had 3,184 riders during the first week and about 3,500 people were predicted to ride the week of Aug. 28, the second week of service.
The UNC Charlotte Office of Student Activities will host Sex Signals, an awareness program co-sponsored by the Brocker Health Center and campus athletics office, at 7 p.m. Thursday.
