A newlywed Bollinger County man was killed Thursday afternoon in a house fire. Jimmy Holt, 43, of near Glenallen was pronounced dead at 3 p.m., Bollinger County Coroner Charles Hutchings said. Emergency personnel found Holt lying at the entrance of his home, Sheriff Terry Wiseman said.

Free condoms and information on how to use them will be available in every University of Missouri-Columbia residential hall bathroom under a pilot program. The program is designed to reduce sex-related infections and unwanted pregnancies. The Columbia/Boone County Health Department will supply the condoms.

The pilot of a small plane died when it crashed Friday morning in a wooded area of Henning State Park, the Federal Aviation Administration said. "This was a home-built or a kit plane," said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory. No one else was on board, Cory said. The single-engine airplane was registered to a man in Pasco, Fla. It was not immediately known whether the owner was flying the plane. The National Transportation Safety Board could not immediately release any information.

A St. Louis County man who fled after shoplifting and caused a crash that killed a fire chief was sentenced Friday to consecutive life terms in prison. Claudex Simmons, 45, of Bellefontaine Neighbors pleaded guilty in August to felony murder, armed criminal action, leaving the scene of an accident, stealing and possession of drug paraphernalia. On March 10, 2005, Simmons stole pain medication and other items from a Walgreen's store. He fled and later crashed head-on into a westbound car driven by Affton Fire Chief Gerald Buehne on his way to work at the fire district where he had spent more than 42 years.

A Nixa art teacher has been accused of possessing methamphetamine in her desk at Century Elementary School, Christian County Prosecutor Ron Cleek announced Friday. Margie K. Lewis, 50, of Springfield is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Nixa Superintendent Stephen Kleinsmith said Lewis had been placed on administrative leave, with further sanctions possible.
