Indore: Incidence of sleeping disorders have been growing with the changing lifestyle and these may lead to impotence, memory loss and even sudden death, medical experts said here today.

Dr Ashok Bajpai, Medicine department head at Indore's MGM Medical College, and medical expert Dr Pramod Jhawar told mediapersons that sleepng disorders like sleep apnea were at par with any other dreaded diseases, but most people, even the medical fraternity, were not much aware about it.

Dr Bajpai, who inaugurated a poly somnography machine at the sleep lab of a Chest, Allergy and Sleep Study Centre here, said ''in sleep apnea, the patient becomes almost lifeless and his upper respiratory tract collapses due to lack of muscle tone and breathing stops for a few seconds. Sometimes, the patient dies during this spell of apnea''.

Dr Bajpai and Dr Jhawar said poly somnography machine monitors the sleep pattern of disorder in the insomniac patient and accordingly the treatment is fixed.
